Yvonne B. Burke, Democratic congresswoman from California

California - Yvonne Brathwaite Burke became the first Black women to represent the state of California in the U.S. Congress.

Georgia - Andrew Young became the first Black person to represent Georgia in the U.S. Congress in over one hundred years.

Texas - Barbara Jordan became the first Black woman representative in the U.S. Congress to be elected from the South.
