Malcolm X Assassinated

Followers of Malcolm X try to comfort him as he lies mortally wounded on stage in an upper Manhattan ballroom Feb. 21, after he was cut down by bullets.

February 21 - Harlem, NY - While speaking at the Audubon Ballroom, Malcolm X was assassinated by members of the Nation of Islam in front of his wife, Dr. Betty Shabazz, and his daughters.   Soon after, The Autobiography of Malcolm X: As Told to Alex Haley , (who later published Roots ) which was originally published in 1964, becomes an instant classic.
