June 28 - New York, NY - Malcolm X, the fiery oft-controversial minister for the Nation of Islam, announced that he has broken ties with the Nation and with Elijah Muhammad. He stated that he had formed The Organization for Afro-American Unity, a Black nationalist party whose goals included seeking independence for all Black people throughout the Western Hemisphere.
