April 15-17 - Raleigh, NC - On the campus of Shaw University, over one hundred and fifty students from thirty states gathered to organize and discuss the next steps of the sit-in movement.   They decided not to join either the NAACP or the SCLC and instead they found SNCC, which quickly became the more militant, proactive civil rights organization.
