Protests Against Gerrymandering

June - Tuskegee, AL - Led by Charles G. Gomillion, a Tuskegee Institute sociologist, black residents began boycotting white businesses because of the state's gerrymandering of electoral districts.   In addition to the boycott, they filed a suit which was eventually decided by the Supreme Court.   The 1969 Gomillion v. Lightfoot ruling stated that gerrymandering was illegal.
