Wyatt T. Walker discusses his experienceas an SCLC leader

January 27 - New Orleans, LA - Over sixty civil rights activists and ministers met in New Orleans and founded the SCLC, which was dedicated to "redeeming the soul" of the United States thorough nonviolent resistance.   Dr. King was elected as the first President and three days later, his Atlanta home was bombed.   The organization went on to become a major driving force for political, social and economic change up until 1968 (once Dr. King was assassinated, the organization's membership severely dropped and its influence, to a large extent, ended).
