BIOGRAPHY
Adolpho A. Birch was the first African American to hold the office of Chief Justice of the Tennessee Supreme Court, serving in this capacity from May 16, 1996, through July 7, 1997. Over the course of his distinguished career he has also served on the faculties of Meharry Medical College, Fisk University, Tennessee State University, and Nashville School of Law. For his commitment and contributions to the practice of law, he has received numerous awards, including the distinguished Alumnus Award from the Howard University School of Law. He is the father of three children and has four grand children.
