Visionary Interviews   A-CD-G H-LM-R S-Z

They are our Visionaries — our living history — extraordinary elders, from every field: the performing arts, politics, literature, photography, social activism, law, education, and more. Shaping our past, and our futures, in so many unexpected and intriguing ways.

They make us laugh, cry, and sit in wonder at their wisdom. They share their triumphs and regrets. But most of all, they challenge us, the next generations, to move forward with them to an exciting future. That future is inevitably connected to a complex past, which now can finally be understood, and conveyed, in their own words.

This permanent video archive of historic interviews documents the lives and celebrates the achievements of these elders. Their living histories will serve as a legacy for the next generation of young, emerging African American leaders, passing on their sense of history, and their pride in the long-standing tradition of African American leadership.

See and hear absorbing selections from our growing database of one-on-one video interviews with such visionaries as Dr. John Hope Franklin, Dr. Dorothy Height, Gordon Parks, Carmen de Lavallade, Geoffrey Holder, Senator Edward Brooke, Andrew Young, Ruby Dee, Ossie Davis and David Dinkins.
