In an era defined
by hip-hop, is the hard-earned legacy of the jazz masters lost on todays
youth? How are these forms of cultural expression different, and what do they
have in common? How does each camp define artistic and business success?
During the first part of the two-hour Roundtable, members of the intergenerational
audience, limited to 20 guests, questioned Mr. Heath one-on-one.
In the second part of the Roundtable, he was joined by a small, but varied
group of panelists, including educator and jazz musician Davey Yarborough
and a young, TBD authority on hip-hop music and culture.
This roundtable discussion marked the latest in a series of intimate, intergenerational
dialogues with NVLP Visionary Elders. All discussions are held at NVLP headquarters
(1218 16th Street, NW, Washington, DC 20036), and are moderated by Renee
Poussaint, NVLP Co-Founder and Executive Director.
